If you have already formatted the hard drive, it is still posible to recover it but not easily. Not an easy task for regular computer user. You may need more than a software depending on which OS and how you formatted. I hope you didn’t do low-level formatting using manufacturer’s software.
A lot of softwares let you test free but you have to buy it in order to recover your actual data from drive.
You may want to try TestDisk at your own risk. It lets you recover lost partition but not sure for formatted partition. Good luck!
There are many software packages that will allow you to recover files from that have been deleted and hard drives that have been formated.
For the best result, do not do anything more with the hard drive you want to recover. You need to set it up as a slave or secondary hard drive on a computer and from that computer install which ever recovery software you want to use on the primary hard drive. Reason is this, the more you use the hard drive with the data, the harder it becomes to recover the data.
If you have really important data, then you may want to send your hard drive to a company such as Drive Savers (www.drivesavers.com).
