how to permanently remove data from hard disk?

   best way. Is to use the pplication kil disk and then take it out the hard drive and hammer a nail through the till it comes out the other side. Ofcourse you will never be able to use that hard drive again.

   You could also just delete the files from the hard drive and recycle and then do a defrag so that if some one tries to do data recovery it will be too crouped to even read let alone use. Try this if you plan on selling a computer.

   you can buy software that will remove every thing. It deletes the data and over writes several times.

   another way is to remove the hard drive and take the drive apart, then destroy the platters.

   Replace your HD and dismantle the old one and shred it into as many pieces as you can. You can never really erase you Hard Drive unless you Reformat, add content, Reformat, add content and Reformat, add content. I have no idea how many times this has to be done but it’s not worth the effort when changing the HD is easier.

   You have to perform a "secure delete" to remove information permanently. This is the only real way to erase information off of magnetic media. This works by encrypting the data and deleting it many times over until its nothing more than unreadable code. Shredding is another technique but not nearly as effective. Also. The US Dept of Defense endorse "secure delete" as the only way to permanently remove data. Check out this link.
