Is there a software that can totally clean hard drive data?
I’m planning to sell my hard drive to a friend of mine and I’m worried if they might recover sensitive data from my hard drive using data recovery software.

Use Eraser to completely overwrite data on that hard drive to DOD standards. Get Eraser here:

I think you’ll be pleased with it’s results, although you’ll have to allow it to run [probably] over night, depending upon the size of the hard drive and how many passes you set it to run.
I hope this helps. Good Luck!
EDIT: DBaN is also a great program. Get it here:
http://www.dban.org/
Both progs are absolutely free.
The free version of Killdisk only overwrites at one pass. So the other two options are much better.
Yeah….that kiddie porn can come back to haunt you.
Download DBaN, which is a totally free way to completely wipe a hard drive.
Download DBAN, burn it to a disk and reboot your computer with it in the drive. Start the wipe and let it run until it’s done, and your disk will be completely clean.
reinstall windows or what ever you used will erase it completly
yes. It is called killdisk and is located here http://www.killdisk.com
I worked for a data recovery business and we could not recover the data from a hard drive that was erased with the free version of killdisk. The reason is that it writes every bit of data to 0’s or 1’s in binary.
Use a DOS boot disk and then format.exe three or four times. The theory is that the disk heads never go quite to the same place every time and using the program multiple times gets rid of the residual data at the track/sector edges as well as on the main track itself.
