Zip Drive recovery data?
I bought a 100Mb zip drive about 2 years ago. Recently when I tried to open documents on my zip but to no avail. Iomega company told me there was a problem with the disk. They told me I need to find a data recovery speacilist b/c they would charge me 0.
I really need to retrieve the documents or copy them on to another disk. Is there an inexpensive way to do this myself instead of paying a company more money than the zip actually cost?
No, there really is no way to recover the data yourself if it is a physical problem. The best thing to do is to have a specialist look at it. I work for a data recovery company, this is all we do, so I advise that you try not to tinker with it anymore and have an evaluation done. We do it completely free of charge, many companies make you pay just to diagnose the problem!
Read around the web-site to get more of an idea.
Best of luck!
You are probably out of luck on this one. It doesn’t matter that it’s a Zip disk — it could happen with any media type (floppy disk, CD, DVD, thumbdrive, etc.). What usually happens is that the "pointers" that tell the disk where each file is located got screwed up somehow — similar to a table of contents getting the page numbers wrong in a book. You might try http://www.download.com to see if there is some sort of disk recovery utility that might help you.
